Bhagsunath Temple

Temples are an expression of God's love.

A medieval shrine, Bhagsunath temple is a Shiva Temple situated about 3kms from McLeod Ganj. The temple has been highly admired by the Hindus and the Gorkha Community. The sacred shrine is known for its two pools that are believed to have healing properties. The best time to travel and visit Bhagsunath Temple is in September during the annual fair. The Kotwali Bazaar, Dal Lake, and Bhagsu Fall are the main attractions around this holy shrine.

Bhagsu Nag Mandir is an ancient temple that have been built by King Bhagsu from Rajasthan. It was constructed by the first Gurkha Rifles in early the 19th century and worshipped majorly by 14 Gurkha platoon villages in Dharamshala. Adjacent to the temple building there are series of pools where visitors and Buddhist monks enjoy baths.

According to another narrative, this shrine was the patronage of a specific Gorkha community called Bhagsuwala (after the God Bhagsunag). It is accepted that these rulers built the two pools of water here with tiger-head spouts. For pilgrims, a double-story wooden house was also built by them.

Best Time to Visit

It is best in winter. However, if you like warm weather, you must visit the place during summer.
