Triund Hill is a wonderful and ideal trekking destination for those seeking a hassle-free taste of trekking in the lap of the Dhauladhar Mountains in the Himalayas. The place is cited as the crown jewel of Dharamshala, and offers a view of the picturesque mountain peaks on one side and the beautiful Kangra Valley on the other. Triund trek is a comparatively easy tranquil trek, which can be done by people of all ages The trek can easily be done over a weekend and the trail to Triund is short but steep. The steep climb in trek is well-compensated by reviving walks amongst rhododendron and oak trees. There are also various songbirds like Green-Backed tit and Gray Bushchat in the forests along the trail which make it a birdwatcher’s delight. The sunset is possibly the main highlight of the Triund Trek and what makes all trekkers stay overnight, camp at the ridge. Look behind and you have the daily sun disappearance with some golden lights hitting these mountain ranges. 

There is also an apparent byway to Triund, which passes through the oak and deodar forests. The trekking trail for the first 5 km is so simple, but one kilometer towards last will require a bit of struggle, which has 22 tiring curves to reach to Triund top. 

Best Time to Visit

As the place is mostly close for trekking during the months of January and February, the best time to visit is from March to May and September to December.

How to Reach

The best route to reach from Delhi is to take an overnight bus to McLeod Ganj. The buses going to Dharamshala will drop you at the main square of McLeod Ganj. It usually cost about INR 600 – 800 for a non-AC one and about INR 1200 – 1500 for an AC bus.

You can simply take taxi from Mcleod Ganj till Galu or you can start the trek right from Mcleod Ganj itself. You can also hire a horse to take you to the top if you are not willing to hike for a long distance.
